As part of our capacity building initiatives we launched the WERA Visiting Researcher Award last year. This award is a new venture between WERA, the International Association for the Evaluation of Educational Achievement (IEA) Research and Analysis (RandA) Unit in Hamburg, Germany, and the Diversity in Education Research Lab (DiVER) at University of Hamburg. It is focused on allowing visiting researchers to develop their own project dealing with existing IEA data, whilst receiving input from IEA and DiVER experts.

We are happy to announce that we have recently selected the receiver of the WERA Visiting Researcher Award. The application window was from the end of last year until the 31st of January. In this time we received 24 applications, which were from 16 different countries. From these 24 applications, 4 were shortlisted.

The application pool was extremely strong and the final decision was a difficult one.The final awardee is Celeste-MariĆ© Combrinck from the University of Pretoria, South Africa.

As this was the first Visiting Researcher Award that we have had, we were extremely impressed by the amount of applications and level on which these applications were. We would like to thank everyone who applied and hope that you will participate in future versions as well.
