WERA sponsored two keynote presentations at ERAS Conference 2011 on September, 8-9, 2011. The theme of the Conference, which was held at the Raffles Institution in Singapore was “Empowering 21st Century Educators as Researchers: Exploring Ideas and Enhancing Practices.”

Arnetha Ball, President of the American Educational Association and Professor of Education at Stanford University presented a keynote address at the ERAS Conference on September 8th. The title of her presentation was “Using Sociocultural Theory to Transform the Practice of Teaching.” Professor Ball presented her research on preparation of teachers to work with diverse populations, and showed how her Model of Generative Change is being used in cross-national contexts to transform the practice of teaching. She concluded her presentation with a discussion of her current work that is empowering urban educators to enhance teaching practices in their own classrooms.
